Living Art America 2016

Living Art America Professional Category Art by Stephanie Anderson
Last weekend Living Art America painted Greensboro, North Carolina a rainbow of colors. The professional bodypainting event drew talent from across the world for three fun-filled days of workshops, competitions, and celebrations. We caught up with renowned bodypainting makeup artist Jinny, co-founder of our Paradise Makeup AQ line, for the inside scoop.

Mehron: As having served as a judge for both, how does Living Art America's North American Bodypainting Championship compare to the World Bodypainting Festival in Austria?

Jinny: While both are sanctioned by the World Bodypainting Association, the two events are very different in terms of type and scale. The World Bodypainting Festival, which has significantly grown over two decades, is a much larger event held outdoors. In addition to the professional and emerging artists competition categories hosted by the North American Bodypainting Championship, the World Bodypainting Festival also has categories for special effects and airbrushing. With more categories, comes more rules. At Living Art America, the rules are more lax and artists can mix their mediums as they wish.

Mehron: We were honored to be a sponsor of the event, as well as your workshop. How did it feel to see your Paradise Makeup AQ being used by so many artists?

Jinny: It was great to feel the presence of Mehron at Living Art America. It seemed to be everywhere - from the tables to the screens during the shows, even at the gala. It was also incredible to see how it played a part in all of the art.

Mehron: What did you think of the caliber of the art and talent?

Jinny: The talent was outstanding! Some of the artists really outdid themselves. Each year that goes by, we see the talent level go up. Now with so many bodypaint instructors, YouTube videos, Instagram, Facebook, and LIVE Facebook, artists have access to everything they need very quickly. If they need a product, from anywhere in the world, they can buy it. If they need to learn a new technique, they can find instructions online. They can find EVERYTHING they need to grow to the next level.

Mehron: The culmination runway show looked spectacular. How was it received by the attendees?

Jinny: There was a nice crowd for both shows. I loved looking at the reactions each time a model would appear on stage. The crowd was mesmerized!

Mehron: What was your favorite part of the event?

Jinny: I loved the whole event! If I had to pick a favorite part, I would have to say sharing these moments with my friends from around the globe. Being able to see so many concepts and colors on living canvas is always a great experience. What made it special for us on the jury was actually judging the contestants in a real courtroom! This year was better than last, and I anticipate that next year will be even better. This is a growing event, organized by artists and business people who do it for the love of ART! I want to say thank you to Ken Goldwasser, Randi Layne, Scott Fray, and Madelyn Greco for making this event happen.
