Liven Up Your Halloween Costume With Some Liquid Latex

Liquid Latex is a go-to Halloween staple. It is the perfect special effects product to create all those gory gashes, scary scars, and mummified membranes that will take your costume to the next level. Pros rely on it to create unusual skin texture and to apply Crepe Hair and prosthetics. While its professional use may seem intimidating, Liquid Latex is easier to apply - and remove - than you think. Just follow the tips and ideas we've outlined below and watch the videos we've included to create the costume your friends will wish they had.

Application Suggestions

To create textures, apply Liquid Latex on top of regular household items such as corn flakes, cotton or tissues. Repeat a second application of the latex if necessary. For her Scooby Doo's Tannis look, Kayla Danielle aka KD Alchemy covered her brows using tissue paper and Mehron's Liquid Latex and created the rest of the texture with the Liquid Latex and cotton balls. She then followed up with Paradise Makeup AQ. Watch the video for her technique.

If you're planning a zombie costume, Liquid Latex is a great way to create burns and decaying skin. Apply with a sponge to the desired area. Let dry and apply another coat. Keep applying coats until you get to the depth you desire. Once dry, pull apart where you would like to place the hole or scar. Tip: Our Stainless Steel Putty Spatula is a great tool for this. Peel back layers to create texture. The latex is very flexible and will form to the shape of wherever it is placed. Follow with Paradise Makeup AQ and Coagulated Blood Gel for a realistic looking wound. Watch the video below on how to create this skin effect.

Liquid Latex is also ideal for creating scars or wrinkled effects. Achieve the look by building up thin layers of of the latex.

To remove, gently peel the latex from the skin then wash the area with soap and water.

Pro Tips:

  1. To protect sensitive skin use Barrier Spray before applying Liquid Latex.
  2. Avoid getting latex onto hair or clothes.
