The Things Emily Anderson Can Do With Paradise Makeup AQ
Every time Emily Anderson posts another piece of her art we are blown away by her talent. As a professional special effects and beauty makeup artist, she is usually transforming actors into monsters for film and television or glamming up rockstars on video sets. In her spare time, she uses herself as the canvas for same absolutely amazing works of art - from fanged monsters and superheroes, to intricate scenes and incredibly detailed characters - with some Paradise Makeup AQ. We're not the only ones who are inspired by her. Emily was recently featured on PopSugar.com and EliteDaily.com. In fact, PopSugar just listed her as one of 50 makeup artists every Halloween fanatic needs to follow. The Daily Mail and Bustle have also sung her praises. And just this week, we selected her as one of our 31 Days of Mehron Halloween daily winners. We recently caught up with Emily to learn more about the artist and what inspires her creativity
Mehron: How did you break into the industry?
Emily: About five years ago, I decided to move out to California to go to Cinema Makeup School. It was kind of on a whim, but I ended up really loving it! I started off working on student films and doing unpaid Craigslist jobs. Every job you're on you meet someone, so I really broke through by making connections and networking.
Mehron: You might have networked to break into the business, but your talent with makeup speaks volumes on its own. What is your first makeup memory?
Emily: Probably my mom letting me wear blush when I was 6 for one of my dad's fancy work parties. I thought I was so special!
Mehron: You have come a long way from a touch of blush! The variety of the looks you create and the detail you include is absolutely inspiring. From where do you draw inspiration for the looks?
Emily: I draw inspiration from everywhere! Movies, comic books, nature, high fashion looks, and other artists.
Mehron: What other artists inspire you?
Emily: I'm inspired by so many makeup artists - Rick Baker, Dick Smith, Ve Neil, Nelly Recchia, the list goes on and on.
Mehron: What inspired your gorgeous mermaid makeup that was featured on PopSugar.com?
Emily: I was actually at first going to recreate the "Evil Siren" face paint that I did a while back, but it kept not turning out right and I kept wiping it off and restarting! Eventually, I just decided to play with color and textures and to see what I came up with. So that look was the end result of me just messing around.
Mehron: Well, that messing around produced an amazing character. It has received over 6,000 Instagram likes. We are sure people will be looking to replicate this look for Halloween. We loved your Bruiser dog face paint. How long did it take you to complete that look?
Emily: Thank you. It took me about four hours!
Mehron: It was so realistic, we had to do a double take! You have such a variety of looks. What are some of your favorite looks that you have created on yourself and your clients?
Emily: This is a hard one! I think my favorite looks that I have done on myself are the Lion King face paint and the Raptor face paint. As for clients, I sculpted and fabricated a piece for the music video "Touch" by DJ KSHMR and my all time favorite experience was body painting wrestler Finn Balor for NXT San Jose Wrestle Mania weekend - mostly because I am a big wrestling fan.
Mehron: We love that you use our Paradise Makeup AQ to create your art. Why are you drawn to it?
Emily: I primarily use Paradise because they are the best paints I have tried! They go on smoothly and are super pigmented and last me forever. Even with doing a few extensive face paints a week, I still only have to go buy more every couple of months or so.
Mehron: You had won a Mehron Instagram contest last year for your fabulous Peter Pan inspired face paint. What inspired that look?
Emily: Yes, that was so exciting for me. At that time, I was doing a lot of scenes. I did a couple Miyazaki inspired face paints and then was doing a Disney series. The scene of them flying over London was always one of my favorite scenes from Peter Pan.
